Year in and year out the very best Cabernet Sauvignon comes from the “Clone 337” block of our estate vineyard surrounding the winery. We used to believe Clone 337 was just a superior Cabernet clone for our terroir but have come to believe it is actually because of the vineyards’ proximity to Dry Creek. The block is planted on an ancient riverbed so the soils are more gravelly and well drained, which results in very deep, rich fruit flavors. This theory was recently bolstered when we dug into the soil for irrigation lines and had to dig through all the small rocks and gravel. The entire vineyard is fabulous, but we like to show off this particular block by bottling a portion separately as our Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon.
