Sourced from the Claypool family vineyard, an organic site on the west side of Lodi. The fruiting arms of the originally planted Zinfandel vines were chopped off, Counoise bud wood was T-budded in 2016 and a movement was born. Sandy loam and a warmer Mediterranean climate define this small but mighty site. Owners, Dave and Tally Claypool tend the vines by hand, and are involved in every activity that happens in the vineyard.

The whole fruit clusters were brought into the cellar and gently placed inside a stainless steel fermenter. The tank was then wrapped and sealed allowing the grapes to begin an “in berry” fermentation through a process called carbonic maceration. After 15 days, the fruit was foot-tread and then taken to the press. The wine was allowed to finish fermentation in the barrels where it was left on the lees for one year. Neutral Burgundy barrels were used to allow the wine to rest and mature.

Tasting Notes:

Watermelon KOOL AID and ripe strawberries. Juicy, approachable and lustful. Toasty overtones tie together the jovial nature of the funnest wine we make to drink.
Serve slightly chilled poolside in the Summer or at cellar temp to pair with a meal.
