Grown just south of Ukiah on the Nelson Ranch in Mendocino County. Nestled in an upland side canyon this 46 year old Riesling vineyard produces small yields of flavorful Riesling grapes. This is the last year for this vineyard. The new younger generation of Nelson’s has decided to rip out the vineyard to plant a different variety that will generate more money per acre. 10 years ago our Napa Valley Riesling vineyard suffered the same fate.

Winemaker’s Notes:

Having gone to winemaking school in Germany, I have always liked making European style Rieslings. The wine is made in a dry style picked at low brix (19.5 brix = 80 Öchsle) and high acidity to produce a crisp low alcohol “Trocken Kabinett” style Riesling.

Tasting Notes:

Well balanced with delicate minerality and hints of apple, slate, Lychee nut, and light honey suckle. This delicate varietal Riesling shows the light terpenes reminiscent of the wonderful Rieslings of the Rhein river.
