Vineyards
Our 2017 Petite Sirah is from the Red Hills AVA of Lake County. The Red Hills lie at the foot of Mount Konocti, an extinct volcano. The vineyard is at 2000 foot elevation and has red, volcanic soil.

Vintage 2017
Clear, hot summer weather, with warm days and cool nights, provided ideal conditions for fully maturing our Petite Sirah grapes, which were harvested in early October with a perfect balance of sugar and acidity.

Winemaking
Winemaker Amy Thorn harvested each of Petite Sirah clones separately and ferment them in small open-top fermenters.  During fermentation, she used a five-day cold soak with daily manual punch-downs to thoroughly macerate the cap of skins and extract maximum color and flavor from the juice.  Once fermentation completed, the wines were transferred to French oak barrels, 60% new, where they aged for eighteen months before being bottled.

Tasting Notes:

This wine is a ruby jewel color with a jammy peppercorn nose and a power-packed palate of dried cherries, blueberries, and plums. Integrated tannins give definition to the flavor of dark berries, spices, and a lush fruit toned acidity. A hint of dark chocolate fruit lingers on the silky finish.
