Vineyard Notes:

The majority of the 2015 Silenus Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon comes from our estate vineyard located in the Oak Knoll District of Napa Valley. This is a very special location adjacent to Dry Creek and the vineyard has a long history of producing extraordinary Cabernet Sauvignon. From the 1970’s through the early 2000’s a portion of the vineyard was sold to Robert Mondavi and used in his Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon. Mr. Mondavi would personally visit each year to inspect and review the vineyard. A small portion of the wine comes from neighboring Wurz Vineyard that shares the same soil compositions and Cabernet Sauvignon clones. All of the wine was aged in 50% new French oak, 10% new America (both medium plus and heavy toast) and 40% neutral for 22 months.

Tasting Notes:

Intense ruby red in color showcases aromas of plum, blackberry and vanilla, which are accented by cedar and toasted oak. The palate is lush with ripe raspberry, plum and fig followed by subtle oak flavors of vanilla and cocoa. The mouth-feel is very clean and pure. The bright fruit flavors evolve into a long finish of creamy oak, black cherry and espresso. This is a beautiful wine and a classic expression of the Oak Knoll District of Napa Valley terroir.
